JCIB – Public Elite High School

Many folks were eagerly awaiting to see if JCIB would reclaim the top spot in Newsweek’s annual ranking of the nation’s top High School. To the shock of some, JCIB was nowhere to be found. Instead, Newsweek created a new category of schools called Public Elites.

Some schools didn’t make the list because their students are too good. The best of the best. Newsweek’s Challenge Index is designed to recognize schools that challenge average students, and not magnet or charter schools that draw only the best students in their areas. These top performers were excluded from the list of top high schools because, despite their exceptional quality, their sky high SAT and ACT scores indicate they have few or no average students.

Seventeen schools have been classified as “Public Elite” schools. JCIB is described as

A small school on the edge of Birmingham where students begin taking AP Courses in the 10th grade and add IB courses to schedules as Juniors and Seniors.

Congratulations to all JCIB teachers, staff and to Linda Jones for continuing to lead the way!!!

My daughter will be entering her junior year at this school and we still feel as we did when she started school, this is ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION, and considering Kandace has received over 200 letters from colleges, passed 2 AP exams her sophomore year and received county, state and national recognition for academics last year every parent in this county and surrounding areas should look at this school if they want the VERY BEST education for their children.

  • My daughter will be entering her junior year at this school and I will assure every parent out there that this is indeed ONE OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY! Kandace has passed 2 AP test as a sophomore, earned county, state and national academic recognition this past year and has received over 200 letters from colleges this past year alone. Every parent within Jefferson County and the surrounding areas should look at this school for their children if they want the VERY BEST EDUCATION! The teachers are remarkable, helpful and always willing to help advance each and every student to their highest potential. GREAT JOB JCIB AND STAFF!
